  About Hasaki:

Known for its fresh sushi and sashimi, Hasaki has become a staple as an authentic Japanese restaurant in the East Village. Since opening in 1984, many restaurants have come and gone. The secret to Hasaki’s success involves the consistent quality of the food and service. Customers who visit around lunchtime can try the Flower Garden, a beautiful combination of sushi, sashimi and salad. It is a palate-pleasing, edible jewel box.

Zagat Survey 2013

Food 24 Decor 17 Service 19 Cost $ 45

"Gourmet" sushi and "authentic" Japanese dishes are served for reasonable" rates at this compact, '84-vintage East Villager; a no-rez rule makes for "long lines" at prime time, so regulars show up for the "can't-go-wrong" lunch specials.

Micheline Guide Recommended 2013

Opened in 1984 and still going strong, this unassuming spot on a tree-lined stretch of the East Village is quietly housed just below street level. The dining room has a clean and spare look, with seating available at a number of wood tables or at the sizeable counter manned by a personable chef.

Hasaki's longevity is attributed to the high quality of its products, which infuse the dining experience with a sense of seriousness and purpose. Skillfully prepared and reasonably priced, delicate sushi and sashimi share the spotlight with shabu-shabu, green tea noodles and crisp tempura. The menu is supplemented by fascinating daily specials that tend to sell out quickly.

Before 6:30pm, the generous "Twilight" menu is cherished.
